THE ENTERTAINER at the Garrick

May 8, 2017

Jon Osborne’s play THE ENTERTAINER at the Garrick Theatre had Kenneth Branagh in the starring role. First time I have ever seen this icon of British Theatre on stage. Impressive. Very impressive and it is very easy to see why he is compared to such all time greats as Laurence Olivier. The subtlety and complexity of his performance give one an endless philosophical reservoir to plumb the depths. It is a performance that stays with you and gives a permanent reflection to consider oneself and others in theatre and in life. There is a richness to this play which is represented not only by Branagh but by a gritty real ensemble supporting cast and in the brilliant set of a decaying theatre.

Quite a performance. Quite a play.
