SUNNY AFTERNOON at the Alexandra Theatre

May 8, 2017

SUNNY AFTERNOON at the Alexandra Theatre beginning a UK tour was quite a party. The musical is based on the music and the story of the band the Kinks. You will know the music as soon as you hear it – great songs. There was a really good feeling as soon as you enter the auditorium when you see the spectacular set constructed on all sides from speakers.

Ryan O’Donnell is exceptional as the lead as Ray Davies. Like all good bands this is a team effort and the ensemble cast are all excellent. This show has REAL volume more like a concert with connecting scenes and it works perfectly. The audience were engaged from the outset although I am going to guess there were a lot of Kinks fans nostalgically embracing their past. I was not expecting to be so swept along by the feeling of being there when it happened. It is obvious that Ray Davies himself is at the centre of this production. Creative masterpiece and immensely enjoyable.
