SCHOOL OF ROCK at the New London Theatre

May 8, 2017

“Based on the movie” is one of those concepts which is almost replacing based on the novel. The High concept of screen to stage works these days. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical SCHOOL OF ROCK at the New London Theatre is of this ilk. It is a very unimaginative stage version of a movie but because little children actually play rock instruments in a band it is unique. This unique selling feature is what will set this musical apart and nothing else.

I was actually rather bored in the first act as the hokey story is set up. The second act is much better and contains the all important kiddy concert. You leave the theatre on a real high but like a balloon full of helium there is only deflation to look forward to.
