DREAMGIRLS at the Savoy Theatre

May 8, 2017

Amber Riley as Effie White in DREAMGIRLS at the Savoy Theatre singing “It’s all over and I am telling you I’m not going” is easily the most astoundingly technically and emotionally powerful performance I have ever experienced in the West End. I was literally pinned into the back of my seat by the force of her performance. DIVA. Worth the price of the ticket to experience just this. Every song that she sings in the show is simply amazing. The show is full of great songs.

No expense has been spared in creating this technicolor spectacular which brings this 35 year old musical into the TV age. However the script is somewhat hokey and in the moments between the spectacular musical numbers I was verging on being bored particularly in the first Act. The second Act is much better and I left the theatre impressed although mostly by Amber Riley and that stunning end of Act One performance.
