THE GO-BETWEEN at the Apollo Theatre

June 17, 2016

I would be very surprised if THE GO-BETWEEN at The Apollo Theatre lasts for very long in the West End. The music and lyrics by Richard Taylor are more choral chamber music suited to the concert hall than a West End theatre. It took the whole of the first Act just to get used to what was a very unique experience in the west End. This is a very sad tale and that mood of “loss” hangs in the auditorium throughout the second Act leaving one with the idea that one has just been to a funeral. Not really what I had paid for!

The performances are incredible. Michael Crawford commands the stage with such a humble presence. His singing voice is haunting. The very young Luka Green as Leo was absolutely amazing and he brought such depth to his character. There is a fine supporting cast and it is clear how much they have invested into this production.
