A RAISON IN THE SUN at The Belgrade Theatre

April 9, 2016

A RAISON IN THE SUN by Lorraine Hansberry at the Belgrade Theatre is a powerfully written and powerfully performed play. A kitchen sink drama about a black family in New York which explores the power struggles between matriarchy and patriarchy. Themes that we can all so easily recognise in our own families which makes this story resonate so well.

The four main players Alisha Baily, Susan Wokoma, Ashley Zhangazha and Angela Wynter give the impression of a true family. There was not a moment that I did not feel I was actually watching a real life drama unfold in front of me. Real emotion has been invested into this performance and it pays off handsomely.
