FUNNY GIRL at the Meunier Chocolate Factory

December 23, 2015

Julie Styne and Bob Merril’s FUNNY GIRL at the Meunier Chocolate Factory is another incredible production in their series of classic broadway shows. This is the first production of FUNNY GIRL in London since Barbara Streisand played a three month run direct from Broadway at the Prince of Wales Theatre in 1966.

Sheriden Smith is a consummate actress, has an excellent singing voice and there is none better in the UK to recreate the iconic role of Fanny Brice. The moment Sheriden Smith steps on to that stage you know we are in for a performance to remember. She is one of us and she reaches into the audience with ease and pulls us into the drama. Her leading man Darius Campbell brings charming gravitas to the role of Nick Arnstein. His presence and masterful singing voice creates a believable connection to Sheriden Smith placing their relationship centre stage which gives this show real heart.

Around that powerful heart Natasha J Barnes, Marilyn Cutts, Gay Soper, Bruce Montague and Joel Montague are first class in the main supporting roles. Mathew Croke and Luke Fetherstone bring elegance with their dancing to the ensemble. The well choreographed strong ensemble performances from the ladies adds the necessary glamour. This show has already booked a transfer into the Savoy Theatre in the West End although the intimacy of the Meunier is not to be missed!
