LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at the Loft Theatre in Royal Leamington Spa

December 17, 2015

Howard Ashman and Alan Menken’s LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at the Loft Theatre in Royal Leamington Spa was great fun. This company really have found the groove when it comes to staging musicals. Tim Willis the Artistic Director also programmes the right choices. This show began its journey as an Off-Broadway hit and it works best in small intimate theatres like the Loft. I had seen the show at the Birmingham Hippodrome some years ago and it was lost on that huge stage. This production, by this company, in this theatre is how you need to experience this musical comedy.

Amy Barrrett, Zoe Hobman and Gemma Mann in wonderful harmony as homeless hoodlums propel us through the story. Chris Gilbey-Smith is an excellent character actor playing the lead Seymore and Nikki Cross is his perfect match as Audrey. Oli Jones is just on the right side of manic as the crazy dentist boyfriend. Pete Bucknall as the voice of the man eating flower puppet is simply awesome. What an incredible cast backed by Matt Flint’s excellent live band.
