PHOTOGRAPH 51 at the Noel Coward Theatre

October 17, 2015

I did not take my eyes off Nicole Kidman as Rosalind Franklin in Anna Zieglers new play PHOTOGRAPH 51 at the Noel Coward Theatre. Her performance was totally convincing and completely mesmerising. Niclole Kidman’s presence on stage amongst the male supporting cast, mirrored Rosalind Franklin’s presence amongst a team of all male scientists in the lab. Her goal was to discover the structure of DNA. Their goal was to be famous.

Every single aspect of this production from the awesome grandeur of the set, the subtle yet powerful use of lighting, the accurate costumes and props, the depth of the sound design wrap this intelligent play in a believable world. There was a sense of actually being there whilst history unfolded. A feeling of looking into the actual past on real events. Central to this experience was the remarkable performance by Nicole Kidman.
