CARMINA BURANA at Birmingham Hippodrome

June 28, 2015

CARMINA BURANA was David Bintley’s first show for the Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1995. This production was revived to as part of a series to mark his successful twenty years at the helm of my favourite ballet company. The rousing music by Carl Orff is one of the most recognisable choral pieces in the repertoire. Bintley has translated this trough his beautiful choreography and design into a dance of almost mythic quality. In great ballet such as this I find that I get lost somewhere between the reality of the performance and the internal world of my own mind. Tyrone Singleton (pictured) stood out as a master of his art and someone to watch out for in the future.
