BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM THE MUSICAL at the Phoenix Theatre is wonderfully entertaining and laugh out loud funny. Director Gurinder Chadha has successfully transferred her movie to the stage with catchy enjoyable songs from Howard Goodall and Charles Hart, colourful design by Miriam Buether and Katrina Lindsay, but most of all with an amazing cast. They are absolutely full of enthusiastic energy which you cannot fail to absorb. Preeya Kalidas as Pinky and Jamal Andrea as Tony I particularly liked. Best of all is Natalie Dew who plays the young lead Jess.

I also particularly loved this huge dose of British Asian culture as a reminder of how rich contemporary Britain has become because the best of us celebrate difference and support the underdog. If you are young at heart and have open mind this is the West End show for you.
