ARCADIA at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham

April 16, 2015

ARCADIA by Tom Stoppard at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham was very dull. Lizzie Spooner and I did not care about any of the characters at all. We watched an academic exercise in discovering a simple misinterpretation of facts that led to an incorrect conclusion. Lizzie’s brother had advised her that there would be “lots of words”.

Simple pleasant design with good period costumes and good acting made the first Act watch able with the hope of a payoff in the second Act. No such luck as more of the same just became frankly tiresome. Extremely uninteresting.
