HARVEY at Birmingham Rep

March 12, 2015

Mary Chase’s pultizer prize winning comedy HARVEY ran for four years in the 1940’s on Broadway. This brand new production at the Birmingham Rep starring James Dreyfus and Maureen Lipman is charming. They are perfect casting and they compliment the contrasting central characters with subtle grace.

Peter McKintosh has designed possibly the best set I have ever seen at the Birmingham Rep, with interlocking revolving scene changes more reminiscent of a National Theatre budget. The pace of this 1940’s play is gentle as one would expect and Director Lindsay Posner has given a natural feel to the comedy.
