GOLEM by 1927 at the Young Vic

December 22, 2014

GOLEM at the Young Vic is easily the most surprising and the most original piece of theatre that I have seen this year. Suzanne Andrade (writer/director) and Paul Barritt (Animation, Film and Design) are co-founders of 1927, the company that has created this unique play. They have managed to merge film and live theatre with exceptional skill to create a cartoon like 3D visual reality.

To this unique form they inject insightful content presented with such energy that I was completely engaged in the performance. The performers Esme Appleton, Will Close, Lillian Henley, Rose Robinson and Shamira Turner are simply amazing creating a seamless connection to the film.

Completely Brilliant. The company plans a tour of the play over the next two years. If you are a fan of innovative devised theatre then do not miss this show.
