FATAL ATTRACTION at Theatre Royal Haymarket

July 11, 2014

FATAL ATTRACTION by James Dearden at the Theatre Royal Haymarket was very disappointing. What was the point? Why on earth did Trevor Nunn want to direct this script. Stars and money? I felt dreadfully sorry for the actors particularly Kristen Davis who looked positively embarrassed at the curtain call. To be fair the first Act was not too bad. Natascha McElhone was very convincing as the jealous obsessive lover and with Mark Bazeley managed to build quite some tension. It all fell apart in the second Act. Natascha’s character Alex was hardly on stage and all of the tension built up in the first act quickly evaporated. It did not quite descend into farce but lingered in uncomfortable awkwardness.
