KING CHARLES III at the Almeida

June 22, 2014

Mike Bartlett’s new play “KING CHARLES III” at the Almeida Theatre presents the scenario of our potential future King Charles creating a constitutional crisis on his first day. I was intrigued watching this story about our current Royals play out in front of me on stage. The play is very well cast with very good performances which makes it all seem just a step away from reality. I loved Adam Jones as the fictional Labour Prime Minister. I thought Oliver Chris and Lydia Wilson were the perfect couple as William and Kate. Tim Pigott-Smith steals the show with his performance as Prince Charles.

However ultimately I am not sure it is a particularly good play and there was always the feeling that something was missing.
