THE BELIEVERS at Warwick Arts

March 24, 2014

Bryony Lavery’s THE BELIEVERS at the Warwick Arts was a very interesting play. Frantic Assembly have a reputation for approaching drama from a unique movement and design perspective and I always find their work interesting. In this production Scott Graham and Jon Bausor explore the concept of faith by removing the physical boundaries of the house where the story is set. Clever lighting, a moving frame and actors suspended in different planes works on our subconscious and conscious mind to undermine our sense of what is real and not real. There is a permanent sense of unease and some genuinely very creepy moments. This physical experience is very powerful and lifts this play beyond the limits of the written text.
