THE BODY OF AN AMERICAN at the Royal and Derngate

March 9, 2014

Dan O’Brien’s play THE BODY OF AN AMERICAN based on the book “Where War Lives” by Paul Watson at the Royal and Derngate in Northampton was an intense experience. Two actors in a very confined tent-like space with a tightly packed audience of no more than sixty people. William Gaminara plays war reporter Paul Watson and other incidental roles and Damien Molony plays the writer Dan O’Brien and other incidental roles. Their performances were precise and powerful and with remarkable skill together the two of them created an almost mystical space which made me feel like I was inside a TV programme. It was almost virtual reality. I have never felt so present inside a play as an audience member. Unique.
