DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS at The Waterside Theatre

March 9, 2014

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury just before it reaches its West End home at the Savoy Theatre. I must say that the Waterside is a beautiful theatre and this show had a beautiful set. Unfortunately that is about as good as it got. This show is awful. I felt like I had seen it all before in other shows only done much better. It was a bit like “Top Hat” meets “Crazy for You” with “The Sunshine Boys”. In other words a complete “Turkey”.

Robert Lindsay was almost embarrassing. Samantha Bond looked very uncomfortable as if she had never danced in heels before. Rufus Hound was amusing but he was totally restrained by the material and was not half as funny as he was last week when I saw him presenting the “What’s On Stage Awards 2014”. You can see the investment in this show but it just does not translate into entertainment. VERY disappointing.
