SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS at Alexandra Theatre

February 18, 2014

I enjoyed SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. This is a big dance show with a collection of not often heard but very good musical numbers. This production is well designed with a good set and good costumes. The centre piece of the show is the dancing. Amazing choreography full of quick changes and acrobatics. This well disciplined and very talented cast received thunderous applause for some incredible sequences from a very appreciative Birmingham audience.

None more appreciative than the very loud clapping Mr Hammond who was sitting next to me. Mr Hammond enthusiastically told me that the lead Sam Attwater was sick and that his son, Alex Hammond as his understudy, had been playing the lead role all week in Birmingham. This must have suited the producers as Alex who has just graduated from Leeds in Theatre and Performance is a Birmingham lad. Alex Hammond has a great voice and he gave a fantastic performance. I am sure this young man has quite a career in musical theatre ahead of him. All in all a good night out.
