The Rocky Horror Show at Wolverhampton Grand

November 17, 2013

I saw the original production of “The Rocky Horror Show” at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham when I was a teenager. I love Oliver Thornton’s “Adam” in “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” and I was looking forward to his “Frank-n-Furter” at the Alexandra Theatre in the 40th Anniversary tour of the “Rocky Horror Show”.

Oliver Thornton was fabulous, as was the rest of the cast in this very well designed and staged colourful production. Shakespearean Actor Philip Franks as the Narrator handled the heckling audience brilliantly.

However, the great surprise was Ben Forster as Brad. We saw Ben last year playing Jesus in the arena tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Here we see his talent as a stage actor as well as his beautiful singing voice.

What a delight to see this touring production again at the Wolverhampton Grand, Oliver, Philip and Ben all still performing as if it was a first night. This time there was also the added bonus of Henry Davis who is a divine Rocky. All egged on by a fabulously receptive Wolverhampton audience, many of whom were dressed up.

This in an INCREDIBLE show and I can honestly say that there was as much energy from Oliver, originality from Philip and professionalism from Ben to give this performance the same top marks as last time I saw the show in tour at the Alex. I would happily go again.
