DAYTONA at the Birmingham Rep

November 17, 2013

DAYTONA by Oliver Cotton at the Birmingham Rep with Maureen Lipman, Harry Shearer and John Bowe was an excellent play. A really excellent play. Everything about this production gave me that comfortable feeling that my night out had been worth it. This is a simple tale yet with plenty of depth which develops as the story unfolds revealing more and more about the characters and their connections. You are left wanting to know more as if we were enjoying a privileged insight into a slice of whole lives. Maureen Lipman and Harry Shearer give an old couple that we believe in. I love Maureen Lipman and she brings such tender understated reality to her character Elli. John Bowe gives a powerful performance as Billy.
