Barking in Essex at the Wyndham’s Theatre

October 27, 2013

BARKING IN ESSEX by Clive Exton is a West End vehicle for Lee Evans with two fabulous roles for Sheila Hancock as his mother and Keeley Hawes as his wife. This is a top notch West End production at the Wyndham’s Theatre with a posh set to match. However once I had gotten used to the mother and the wife calling everybody “f*****g c**t” this play lost its edge. It says something that I was giggling more in the second Act because of a drunk a few rows behind us was repeating the last word of every line and uncontrollably chuckling.
