Wonderful Town

March 7, 2013

Lizzie and I saw Maureen Lipman in a brilliant production of “Wonderful Town” at the Queen’s Theatre in 1986. Last night with Mike we were ready to enjoy a much bigger production at the Hippodrome. Great design, great choreography, great singing cast which served to emphasise even more the one big hole in the middle of it all. Unfortunately the lead Connie Fisher was not up to it. She was just behind time with the dancers, her voice was forced and most of all this show needs a great comedy actress lead like Maureen Lipman. Connie Fisher didn’t raise a single laugh as we all sat in silence. I am so sorry to say but I thought we were watching an UNDERSTUDY until I consulted the programme in the interval.
